Battery Banks and DC Power System Maintenance

Battery banks quietly back up substations, control rooms and emergency systems, yet they often fail exactly when a power outage strikes. With load shedding and grid instability common across Africa, dependable DC systems matter more than ever. This programme trains technicians to inspect, test and maintain lead acid and lithium battery banks, chargers and DC distribution so backup power performs when it is needed.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the role of battery banks and DC systems in plant reliability.
  • Inspect and service lead acid and lithium battery installations safely.
  • Test battery capacity, voltage and internal resistance.
  • Check chargers, rectifiers and DC distribution for correct operation.
  • Recognise and act on early signs of cell failure and ageing.
  • Keep battery records that support replacement planning.
