Baseline and Continuous Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment for Mines

Builds practical competence in conducting baseline, issue based and continuous risk assessments across mining operations, in line with the risk assessment expectations of Southern African mining law. Participants learn to rank mining hazards, set meaningful controls and keep risk registers alive as operations change. The course uses working templates that delegates can apply to their own shafts, pits and plants immediately.

What you will be able to do

  • Distinguish between baseline, issue based and continuous hazard identification approaches.
  • Facilitate structured risk assessment workshops with mixed mining teams.
  • Rank mining hazards using consistent likelihood and consequence criteria.
  • Select and prioritise controls using the hierarchy of controls.
  • Maintain living risk registers that reflect changing mining conditions.
  • Verify control effectiveness through inspections and field observations.
