Asbestos and Airborne Fibre Identification Techniques

A specialist laboratory course on identifying and counting asbestos and other airborne fibres in bulk materials and air samples. Delegates learn sample preparation, microscopy based counting and identification methods and the quality checks that make results defensible. The programme supports laboratories serving construction, demolition and occupational hygiene clients.

What you will be able to do

  • Describe fibre types and the hazards they present.
  • Prepare bulk and air samples for fibre analysis.
  • Apply microscopy methods for fibre counting and identification.
  • Distinguish asbestos from other fibres using recognised criteria.
  • Apply quality control and counting rules consistently.
  • Report fibre results with appropriate caveats and traceability.
