Applied Water Technology in Oil and Gas Production

Produced water and injection water management are central to oil and gas production operations across the African petroleum sector. This course covers produced water characterisation, oil in water testing, injection water quality requirements, scale and souring control, and the field and laboratory methods used to protect reservoirs, pipelines and processing equipment.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the sources and characteristics of produced and injection water in oil and gas operations.
  • Describe oil in water testing methods used for discharge and reuse compliance.
  • Identify scaling and souring risks associated with produced and injection water.
  • Apply laboratory procedures for measuring salinity, hardness and dissolved gases.
  • Evaluate water compatibility to reduce scale formation in reservoirs and pipelines.
  • Recommend treatment options for produced water reuse or safe disposal.
