Abnormal and Oversized Load Transport Management

Equips transport planners to move abnormal, oversized and heavy indivisible loads safely and legally on South African roads. Participants learn permit requirements, route surveys, escort arrangements and the coordination needed with provincial authorities. The programme draws on real challenges such as bridge clearances, power line heights and moving mining and construction equipment across provinces.

What you will be able to do

  • Classify abnormal loads by dimension and mass against legal thresholds.
  • Apply for abnormal load permits and interpret the conditions attached.
  • Conduct route surveys to identify bridges, clearances and hazards.
  • Arrange pilot vehicles, escorts and traffic authority coordination.
  • Plan safe loading, securing and travel timing for oversized cargo.
  • Manage risk and emergency procedures during an abnormal load move.
