Workplace Violence Prevention and Aggression De-escalation

Frontline staff in clinics, banks, municipal offices and retail across the region face verbal abuse, threats and physical aggression that rarely appear in the injury statistics but take a real toll. This course treats violence as an occupational hazard to be assessed and controlled, covering warning signs, de-escalation techniques and physical security measures. Scenarios are drawn from counters, wards, cash points and call centres where confrontations commonly occur.

What you will be able to do

  • Assess the risk of workplace violence for different roles and locations.
  • Recognise the warning signs that a situation is escalating toward aggression.
  • Apply verbal de-escalation techniques to calm angry and threatening people.
  • Use physical layout, barriers and alarms to reduce exposure to violence.
  • Follow a clear procedure for disengaging and summoning help when threatened.
  • Support affected staff and report incidents so patterns can be addressed.
