Water Safety and Drowning Prevention for Industrial and Marine Sites

Dams, settling ponds, reservoirs, quays and river crossings on African mines, farms, water utilities and construction sites put workers near deep or fast water where a fall can drown someone in minutes. This course addresses the neglected hazard of working over and near water, covering edge protection, buoyancy equipment and water rescue. It helps sites plan for the moment someone enters the water rather than hoping it never happens.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify drowning and immersion hazards around water on the site.
  • Assess tasks carried out over, beside and on the water.
  • Apply edge protection, barriers and safe access near water.
  • Select and maintain buoyancy aids, lifejackets and rescue equipment.
  • Plan water rescue and recovery within survivable time frames.
  • Prepare workers for cold water shock and immersion effects.
