Waste Segregation and Safe Disposal in the Workplace

Mixed waste streams put workers at risk from sharps, chemicals and contaminated materials, and expose organisations to fines when hazardous waste ends up in a general skip. This course teaches practical waste classification, segregation at source and safe handling through to disposal. It works through the general, hazardous, medical and recyclable streams that offices, clinics, workshops and factories generate every day.

What you will be able to do

  • Classify workplace waste into general, hazardous, medical and recyclable streams.
  • Set up colour coded segregation and labelling that workers actually follow.
  • Handle sharps, chemical and contaminated waste to prevent injury and exposure.
  • Arrange safe storage, transport and disposal through licensed contractors.
  • Maintain waste manifests and records that satisfy environmental requirements.
  • Reduce waste at source and improve recycling and recovery rates.
