Timber and Light Steel Frame Building Construction

Timber and light steel frame systems offer fast, lighter alternatives to masonry for housing and commercial buildings across the continent, but they demand different detailing and supervision. This course introduces the design intent, materials and construction of framed buildings. It focuses on the connections, cladding, insulation and moisture control that determine whether framed buildings perform well over time.

What you will be able to do

  • Compare timber and light steel frame systems and their uses.
  • Interpret frame drawings, connections and load paths.
  • Supervise frame erection, bracing and fixing on site.
  • Control cladding, sheathing and weatherproofing details.
  • Manage insulation, vapour and moisture control in frames.
  • Inspect framed construction against tolerances and defects.
