Social Engineering and Phishing Defence for Employees

Most successful cyber attacks in South African organisations begin with a convincing email, phone call or WhatsApp message rather than a technical exploit. This course trains general staff to recognise phishing, pretexting and invoice fraud attempts common in the region, including scams that impersonate banks and government departments. Practical exercises use real, anonymised examples to build lasting habits of caution.

What you will be able to do

  • Recognise common phishing and pretexting techniques used against South African organisations.
  • Identify invoice fraud and business email compromise attempts before acting on them.
  • Verify suspicious requests through appropriate secondary channels before responding.
  • Report suspected phishing attempts using the organisation's incident channels.
  • Apply safe practices when handling links, attachments and unfamiliar requests.
  • Coach colleagues on recognising social engineering red flags in daily communication.
