Slips, Trips and Falls Prevention in the Workplace

Same level slips and trips remain one of the most common causes of lost time injuries in African offices, retail floors, hospitals and food premises, yet they are often dismissed as clumsiness rather than a system failure. This course treats them as a controllable hazard, working through floor surface selection, contamination control, housekeeping standards and lighting. Participants leave able to survey a site and close the gaps that put people on the floor.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify the contamination, obstruction and surface factors that cause same level falls.
  • Conduct a slip and trip survey across walkways, entrances, ramps and wet areas.
  • Assess floor materials and cleaning regimes against the friction they actually deliver.
  • Specify housekeeping, spillage response and cable management standards for the site.
  • Evaluate lighting, footwear and signage as part of an integrated control plan.
  • Prioritise remedial actions using a simple cost and risk ranking.
