Severe Weather and Natural Disaster Preparedness for Sites

Floods, lightning, heavy storms and drought driven fires increasingly disrupt African worksites, yet many emergency plans only cover fire in the building. This course helps sites prepare for natural hazards by assessing local exposure, protecting people and assets and planning for recovery. It uses realistic scenarios such as flash flooding, lightning on open ground and storm damage to structures and power supplies.

What you will be able to do

  • Assess a site's exposure to floods, storms, lightning, heat and wildfire.
  • Build early warning and monitoring into the site emergency plan.
  • Protect workers, visitors and assets before and during a severe weather event.
  • Plan evacuation, shelter and shutdown for different natural hazards.
  • Coordinate with local authorities and community responders.
  • Organise recovery, damage assessment and safe return to work.
