Scaffolding Erection, Inspection and Safe Use

Collapsed and poorly tied scaffolds remain a leading cause of construction fatalities across the region, often because the person who signed the scaffold off could not actually judge whether it was safe. This course builds the knowledge needed to erect, inspect and hand over access scaffolding, covering foundations, bracing, ties, working platforms and the tagging system that tells workers whether a scaffold is safe to climb. It suits both building sites and industrial maintenance environments.

What you will be able to do

  • Distinguish the main types of access scaffold and their appropriate uses.
  • Verify foundations, standards, bracing and ties during erection and inspection.
  • Apply the scaffold tagging system so that workers know a scaffold's status at a glance.
  • Inspect a completed scaffold and record defects that must be corrected before use.
  • Control safe access, working platforms, guardrails and toe boards at height.
  • Manage the alteration, movement and dismantling of scaffolds without creating new hazards.
