Safety Signage, Colour Coding and Visual Workplace Standards

Faded, inconsistent or missing safety signs leave workers guessing about hazards, escape routes and pipe contents, and a visitor cannot read a site that has no visual language. This course covers how to build a consistent signage and colour coding system that communicates hazards at a glance. It works through the mandatory, prohibition, warning and emergency signs, pipe marking and floor demarcation used across industrial and commercial sites.

  • Explain the categories of safety signs and what each colour and shape means.
  • Audit existing signage and identify gaps, clutter and faded or wrong signs.
  • Design a consistent signage plan for a building, plant or yard.
  • Apply pipe marking and colour coding so contents and flow are clear.
  • Set up floor demarcation for walkways, storage and hazard zones.
  • Maintain visual standards so signage stays legible and current.
