Safe Work Procedure and Method Statement Development

Many safe work procedures are copied from templates, ignored on the floor and only remembered after an incident. This course teaches practitioners to write clear, task-specific safe work procedures and method statements that people can actually follow. Delegates practise breaking a real task into steps, identifying the hazards at each step and specifying controls that fit the way work is done on African sites.

What you will be able to do

  • Distinguish safe work procedures, method statements and job hazard analyses.
  • Break a task into logical steps and identify the hazards at each one.
  • Specify practical controls that the workforce will realistically follow.
  • Write procedures in plain language suited to the intended readers.
  • Involve workers in developing and validating procedures on the floor.
  • Review, update and control procedure documents over time.
