Rooftop Solar PV Installation and Grid Tie Coordination for Buildings

Load shedding and rising tariffs have pushed rooftop solar onto commercial and residential buildings across the continent. This course covers the construction side of a photovoltaic installation, from roof assessment and mounting to inverter placement and safe grid connection. It focuses on how the built environment team plans, installs and hands over a compliant rooftop system rather than on electrical design theory alone.

What you will be able to do

  • Assess roof structure, loading and orientation for a PV array.
  • Select and install mounting systems without compromising the roof.
  • Coordinate module, inverter and cable routing on the building.
  • Apply safe isolation and earthing during installation.
  • Manage grid tie, metering and utility approval requirements.
  • Commission, test and hand over the installation with records.
