Respiratory Protection Programme and Fit Testing

A respirator only protects the worker if it seals to the face and matches the hazard, yet many sites hand out dust masks with no programme behind them. This course builds a complete respiratory protection programme covering hazard assessment, respirator selection, fit testing, medical screening and maintenance. Practical fit test demonstrations use the half mask and disposable respirators typically issued on mines, foundries and manufacturing floors.

What you will be able to do

  • Assess airborne hazards to determine when respiratory protection is genuinely required.
  • Select the correct respirator type and filter class for the exposure present.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative fit tests and interpret the results.
  • Screen workers for medical fitness to wear respiratory protective equipment.
  • Establish cleaning, storage, inspection and replacement routines for respirators.
  • Train wearers in seal checks and the limits of their equipment.
