Reading Construction Drawings and Technical Specifications

Many site errors trace back to someone misreading a drawing or ignoring a clause in the specification. This practical course builds the confidence to interpret architectural, structural and services drawings, follow revisions and cross reference them with the written specification. It is aimed at South African site and support staff who must turn documents into correctly built work.

What you will be able to do

  • Interpret architectural, structural and services drawings and their symbols.
  • Read title blocks, scales, grids and drawing revisions correctly.
  • Cross reference drawings with the written specification and schedules.
  • Identify sections, details and setting out dimensions on a drawing.
  • Detect clashes and missing information before work starts.
  • Raise technical queries and record drawing changes clearly.
