Pressure Equipment and Boiler Safety Inspection

Steam boilers, air receivers and pressure vessels store enormous energy, and a failure can level a plant room and kill anyone nearby. This course covers the safe operation, inspection and maintenance of pressure equipment, including safety valves, controls and the defects that precede failure. Content reflects the boilers, compressors and receivers found in food factories, hospitals, mines and general industry across Africa.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the hazards of stored pressure energy and how vessels fail.
  • Identify the main types of pressure equipment and their critical components.
  • Verify that safety valves, gauges and controls are functioning correctly.
  • Carry out routine inspections and recognise signs of corrosion and damage.
  • Establish safe operating limits and shutdown procedures for pressure plant.
  • Maintain the inspection records and registers that support safe operation.
