Permit to Work Systems for High Risk Activities

Hot work, confined space entry, excavation and isolation activities carry consequences serious enough that a verbal go ahead is not sufficient control, yet many sites run permit systems that exist on paper without real verification. This course builds permit to work systems that assign clear authority, cross reference isolation and rescue arrangements, and hold up when reviewed after an incident.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify the categories of work that require a formal permit to work control.
  • Design a permit to work form that captures hazards, controls and sign off authority clearly.
  • Cross reference permits with isolation, rescue and standby arrangements.
  • Verify site conditions before authorising work to begin under a permit.
  • Manage simultaneous and overlapping permits on a single site without conflict.
  • Audit a permit to work system and close out the gaps an incident review would find.
