Mobile Elevating Work Platform Safety and Operation

Scissor lifts, boom lifts and cherry pickers have replaced much scaffold work on African construction, warehouse and maintenance sites, but overturns, entrapment against structures and falls from the basket cause serious harm when they are used casually. This course covers the safe planning, ground assessment and operation of mobile elevating work platforms. It also addresses rescue of a stranded operator, an area frequently overlooked until it is too late.

What you will be able to do

  • Match platform type to the task, ground conditions and working height.
  • Assess ground bearing, slopes and overhead hazards before positioning.
  • Apply pre use inspection and function checks to the machine.
  • Operate the platform within its safe working envelope and load limits.
  • Control entrapment, fall and contact hazards during work at height.
  • Plan and practise rescue of an operator stranded at height.
