Machine Guarding and Mechanical Safety for Production Lines

Amputations and crush injuries on production lines almost always trace back to a guard that was removed for maintenance and never refitted, or an interlock that was bypassed to keep output up. This course teaches how to identify mechanical hazards on rotating, cutting and moving machinery, then select and specify fixed guards, interlocks and presence sensing devices that stay in place under real production pressure. Practical examples cover food processing, packaging, textiles and general manufacturing plant common across the region.

  • Identify mechanical hazards including entanglement, crushing, shearing and drawing in points.
  • Match guarding solutions to specific machinery risks and access requirements.
  • Evaluate interlocks, light curtains and presence sensing devices against the task.
  • Establish safe practices for cleaning, clearing blockages and maintenance on moving plant.
  • Investigate a machinery incident and identify the guarding failure that allowed it.
  • Build a machine guarding inspection routine that survives shift changes and production targets.
