Lone Worker and Remote Site Safety Management

Meter readers, field technicians, security patrols and agricultural staff often work alone, far from help and out of radio range for hours at a time. This course helps organisations identify lone working risks and put practical controls in place, including check-in systems, communication technology and escalation procedures suited to areas with patchy mobile coverage. The focus is on realistic arrangements for the distances and terrain common across African operations.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify roles and tasks that expose workers to lone working risk.
  • Assess the specific hazards faced by staff operating without direct supervision.
  • Design check-in, monitoring and escalation procedures that actually get followed.
  • Select communication and location technology appropriate to remote areas.
  • Prepare lone workers to recognise and de-escalate threatening situations.
  • Plan the emergency response for a worker who fails to check in.
