Logistics, Distribution and Cross Border Freight Management

Freight moving through Durban and City Deep rarely follows the plan. Road, rail and sea distribution, customs clearance and SADC border crossings, warehouse to customer flow, and the cost of every delay. Participants build a distribution plan against real port and rail constraints.

What you will be able to do

  • Compare road, rail, sea and air options on landed cost, transit reliability and cargo risk for a given consignment.
  • Plan around port congestion, rail capacity limits and known peak season bottlenecks instead of reacting to them.
  • Prepare and check the documentation set for a cross border move into SADC markets.
  • Calculate total distribution cost per unit, including demurrage, detention, standing time and damaged stock.
  • Structure a transporter contract with service levels, rate escalation and clear liability for loss in transit.
  • Design last mile delivery routes and schedules that hold up across urban, township and rural drop points.
