Health and Safety Committee Effectiveness and Worker Consultation

Many workplaces appoint a safety committee to satisfy the law and then let it drift into a monthly complaint session with no follow through. This course shows how to run a committee that actually surfaces hazards, tracks actions to closure and gives workers a genuine voice in safety decisions. It uses realistic committee agendas, action registers and consultation methods suited to unionised and non unionised African workplaces.

What you will be able to do

  • Clarify the role, composition and mandate of a health and safety committee.
  • Structure meetings and agendas that produce decisions rather than repeated complaints.
  • Maintain an action register and drive items through to verified closure.
  • Run worker consultation that reaches shop floor and shift based staff.
  • Handle disagreements between worker and employer representatives constructively.
  • Measure committee performance and report progress to management.
