Group Financial Reporting and Consolidation Fundamentals

As African companies expand across borders and acquire subsidiaries, finance teams must combine many sets of accounts into a single group view. This course teaches the mechanics of consolidation, from eliminating intercompany balances to accounting for minority interests and foreign subsidiaries. Participants build the confidence to prepare accurate group financial statements and explain them to boards and investors.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain when and why consolidated financial statements are required.
  • Prepare consolidation worksheets for a parent and its subsidiaries.
  • Eliminate intercompany transactions, balances and unrealised profits.
  • Account for goodwill and non controlling interests on acquisition.
  • Translate the results of foreign subsidiaries into the group currency.
  • Present group financial statements clearly to stakeholders.
