Foundry and Molten Metal Handling Safety

Foundries expose workers to molten metal, furnace heat, moulding dust and the violent steam explosions that follow when metal meets water. This course covers the specific hazards of casting operations and the controls that keep pouring crews safe. It draws on the iron, aluminium and non ferrous foundries operating across the region, where heat, splash and manual handling combine in a demanding environment.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify the major hazards of melting, pouring and casting operations.
  • Prevent steam explosions caused by moisture contacting molten metal.
  • Select heat resistant clothing and protective equipment for pouring crews.
  • Control furnace, ladle and pouring operations to reduce splash and spill risk.
  • Manage foundry dust, fume and heat stress across the shift.
  • Plan emergency response for burns, spills and furnace incidents.
