Forklift and Powered Industrial Truck Safety Management

Forklifts, reach trucks and telehandlers cause a steady stream of crush and tip-over injuries in warehouses and yards, usually where operator authorisation and traffic separation are weak. This course equips managers and supervisors to run a safe powered industrial truck operation, from operator competence and daily checks to pedestrian segregation and load stability. Examples draw on busy distribution centres and manufacturing stores found across Southern and East Africa.

What you will be able to do

  • Establish operator authorisation, competence checks and refresher arrangements.
  • Design traffic routes that separate powered trucks from pedestrians.
  • Implement daily pre-use inspections and defect reporting for lift trucks.
  • Assess load stability, rated capacity and attachment risks.
  • Manage battery charging, refuelling and gas cylinder change areas safely.
  • Investigate forklift incidents and close out the underlying causes.
