Financial Decision Making for Cooperatives and SACCO Managers

Cooperatives and savings and credit societies hold the financial trust of thousands of members, yet many are run by managers with limited formal finance training. This course builds the specific financial management skills member based organisations need, from managing member savings and loans to setting surplus distribution and safeguarding funds. It reflects the cooperative context found across East, Southern and West Africa.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the financial responsibilities unique to member based organisations.
  • Manage member savings, shares and loan portfolios prudently.
  • Interpret cooperative financial statements and key ratios.
  • Set surplus, dividend and interest rebate decisions responsibly.
  • Establish controls that protect member funds from loss and fraud.
  • Prepare financial information for members and regulators.
