Finance for Non-Financial Managers

Operations managers, engineers and department heads are handed budgets and asked to defend variances without ever having read an income statement properly. That fluency gets built from the ground up: how profit differs from cash, what drives cost in your own department, and how to hold your own in a finance meeting.

What you will be able to do

  • Read an income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement with confidence.
  • Explain why a profitable department can still create a cash problem for the business.
  • Separate fixed, variable and semi variable costs within your own area of responsibility.
  • Interpret variance reports and account for the movements that matter.
  • Build a defensible business case for capital expenditure or additional headcount.
  • Speak to finance colleagues and auditors using accurate accounting terminology.
