Fall Arrest Equipment Inspection and Rescue Planning

A harness that stops a fall is only half the system, because a worker left hanging in a harness can suffer suspension trauma within minutes if no rescue plan exists. This course teaches how to inspect and retire fall arrest equipment and how to build a rescue plan that gets a suspended worker down quickly. It uses the harnesses, lanyards and anchor types commonly found on African construction, telecoms and industrial sites.

What you will be able to do

  • Inspect harnesses, lanyards, connectors and anchor points and record pass or fail decisions.
  • Identify wear, damage and expiry that require equipment to be removed from service.
  • Explain suspension trauma and why rapid post fall rescue is critical.
  • Build a fall rescue plan matched to the height, structure and available equipment.
  • Select and use rescue and descent devices for suspended workers.
  • Maintain equipment registers and inspection records that survive an audit.
