Electrical Safety Awareness for Non-Electrical Workers

Most electrical injuries happen to people who are not electricians, using extension leads, portable tools and office equipment without ever being taught the basics. This course gives non electrical staff the awareness to spot electrical dangers, use equipment safely and know exactly where their responsibility ends and a qualified electrician must take over. Examples use the plugs, leads, boards and appliances found in offices, shops and workshops everywhere.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain in plain terms how electricity causes shock, burns and fires.
  • Recognise damaged plugs, leads, sockets and equipment that must be reported.
  • Use portable electrical equipment and extension leads safely.
  • Understand the danger of water, overloading and improvised repairs.
  • Respond correctly to an electric shock and a small electrical fire.
  • Know when to stop and call a qualified electrician.
