Electrical Safety and Lockout Tagout Procedures

Electrical incidents on industrial and commercial sites are frequently the result of an isolation step skipped under time pressure rather than a lack of policy. This course builds practical competence in arc flash awareness, isolation and lockout tagout sequencing, permit to work controls and safe work practices around low and medium voltage equipment on plant and site electrical systems.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify the main causes of electrical incidents on industrial and commercial premises.
  • Apply lockout tagout procedures correctly across multiple energy sources and isolation points.
  • Explain arc flash risk and the selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Complete a permit to work for electrical isolation that a supervisor can verify and sign off.
  • Distinguish the competencies required for authorised, competent and instructed persons.
  • Investigate a near miss electrical incident and recommend corrective isolation controls.
