Electrical Protection Coordination and Relay Setting

Protection that is poorly coordinated either trips too much or fails to clear faults, putting people and plant at risk. This programme takes delegates through fault behaviour, relay characteristics and grading so they can set devices with confidence. The focus is practical calculation and coordination for real feeders, transformers and motors.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain how short circuit faults develop and how protection responds.
  • Read time current curves for fuses, overcurrent and earth fault relays.
  • Calculate settings for overcurrent, earth fault and differential functions.
  • Coordinate protective devices so that the nearest device clears the fault.
  • Verify current transformer suitability for a chosen protection scheme.
  • Document a protection grading study for review and commissioning.
