Power and Distribution Transformer Operation and Maintenance

Transformers are the backbone of every substation and industrial power supply across Africa, and unplanned failures cause costly outages for utilities, mines and factories. This course builds practical skills in operating, testing and maintaining power and distribution transformers to keep supply reliable. Delegates learn to interpret condition data, plan maintenance and extend asset life in demanding local conditions.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the construction and operating principles of power and distribution transformers
  • Interpret nameplate data, vector groups and cooling ratings for correct application
  • Perform routine tests and inspections to assess transformer health
  • Diagnose common faults in windings, bushings, tap changers and cooling systems
  • Plan preventive and condition based maintenance schedules
  • Apply safe isolation and switching practices during transformer work
