Dropped Object Prevention for Elevated Work

On construction sites, in mines and around plant, a dropped spanner or loose bolt falling from height can kill someone below just as surely as a person falling, yet the hazard is often left to hard hats alone. This course tackles dropped objects as a preventable event, covering tool tethering, barriers, exclusion zones and securing of materials at height. Participants build a practical programme that protects everyone working underneath.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the energy and injury potential of objects falling from height.
  • Identify static and dynamic dropped object sources during elevated work.
  • Apply tool tethering, containers and securing methods at height.
  • Design barriers, toe boards, netting and exclusion zones below the work.
  • Establish inspection routines for fixtures, fittings and stored materials.
  • Embed dropped object awareness into permits and toolbox talks.
