Drone and Unmanned Aircraft Operational Safety

Drones now survey African mines, farms, construction sites and infrastructure, but flying them near people, plant and overhead lines introduces crush, laceration and collision risks that safety plans rarely cover. This course addresses the occupational safety of commercial drone operations rather than pilot licensing. It equips operators and site managers to plan flights, set exclusion zones and respond when an aircraft fails.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify the injury and collision hazards of commercial drone operations.
  • Plan flights that keep people and equipment clear of the aircraft.
  • Set ground exclusion zones and control access during operations.
  • Assess battery, propeller and payload hazards before and after flight.
  • Manage flying near overhead lines, structures and moving plant.
  • Respond to loss of control, flyaway and crash situations.
