Construction Surveying and Setting Out for Site Teams

Work that is set out wrong is built wrong, and demolition and rework quietly erode the margin on many South African building and civil contracts. This course gives site teams the practical surveying skills to establish control, transfer levels and set out structures accurately using modern instruments. Participants practise the day to day checks that catch errors before concrete is poured.

What you will be able to do

  • Set up and check a level, theodolite and total station on site.
  • Establish and protect survey control points and benchmarks.
  • Transfer levels and set out grid lines for foundations and structures.
  • Calculate coordinates, bearings and distances for setting out.
  • Verify verticality, alignment and dimensions against the drawings.
  • Keep clear setting out records and as built survey notes.
