Concrete Repair, Rehabilitation and Structural Strengthening

Ageing bridges, buildings and water structures across Africa need repair long before their designers expected, driven by corrosion, poor construction and harsh climates. This course explains why concrete deteriorates and how to diagnose, specify and supervise durable repairs. It covers the repair and strengthening methods a site team must get right so the fix outlasts the problem it was meant to solve.

What you will be able to do

  • Diagnose common concrete defects and their root causes.
  • Assess reinforcement corrosion and carbonation on structures.
  • Specify appropriate repair mortars and bonding systems.
  • Supervise breaking out, cleaning and reinstatement of concrete.
  • Apply strengthening methods such as plates and fibre systems.
  • Protect repaired concrete and plan future durability.
