Circuit Breaker Timing and Diagnostic Testing

A circuit breaker that opens a fraction too slowly can turn a routine fault into serious damage. This hands on programme covers the timing, contact and insulation tests that confirm a breaker will operate as designed. Delegates learn how to run tests safely, read results and decide when a breaker needs attention.

What you will be able to do

  • Describe the operating principles of common medium and high voltage breakers.
  • Plan a safe test sequence with proper isolation and earthing.
  • Perform timing tests and interpret open, close and travel results.
  • Measure contact resistance and insulation condition accurately.
  • Identify signs of mechanism wear from test data.
  • Record findings and recommend maintenance or replacement actions.
