Building Condition Assessment and Defect Diagnosis

Ageing buildings across South Africa need honest condition assessments before owners can plan repairs or budget for renewal. This course teaches a structured approach to surveying an existing building, diagnosing common defects and reporting on their causes and urgency. Participants learn to look past the symptom to the underlying cause of cracking, damp, corrosion and material decay.

What you will be able to do

  • Plan and carry out a structured building condition survey.
  • Recognise common structural, damp and finish related defects.
  • Diagnose the likely causes of cracking, movement and deterioration.
  • Rate the severity and urgency of defects for the owner.
  • Recommend appropriate investigation and repair options.
  • Write a clear condition report with prioritised actions.
