Asbestos Awareness and Safe Removal Management

Older factories, schools, hospitals and mine buildings across the region still hold asbestos in roof sheeting, lagging and floor tiles, and uncontrolled maintenance or demolition work releases fibres that cause disease decades later. This course builds the knowledge to locate suspect materials, manage them in place and oversee removal by competent contractors. It focuses on the duty holder role rather than hands on stripping.

What you will be able to do

  • Recognise where asbestos containing materials are typically found in older buildings.
  • Commission and interpret an asbestos survey and register for a property.
  • Decide when material can be managed in place and when removal is required.
  • Set control standards for enclosure, air monitoring and waste disposal during removal.
  • Evaluate and supervise removal contractors against a clear scope of work.
  • Maintain an asbestos management plan and communicate risk to occupants and workers.
