Airside and Ground Handling Safety for Aviation Operations

On the aprons of the region's airports, refuellers, baggage tugs, loaders and marshallers work within metres of jet blast, spinning engines and pressurised aircraft where a small error becomes an expensive or fatal one. This course covers the occupational safety of airside and ground handling work, distinct from aviation regulatory training. It focuses on the ramp hazards, vehicle discipline and communication that protect ground crews.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify the jet blast, engine, propeller and pressurisation hazards on the ramp.
  • Apply airside driving and equipment discipline around parked and moving aircraft.
  • Manage aircraft arrival, marshalling and departure safety zones.
  • Control fuelling, loading and servicing hazards during turnaround.
  • Reduce manual handling and noise exposure for ground crews.
  • Establish reporting and response for foreign object debris and ramp incidents.
